Removed structural joists with the mortise and tenon joint, revealing the original 1903 construction. In keeping with the “green” goals of the project, these3” X 10” (actual measurements) joists, made from Eastern white pine, were kept out of the construction and demolition waste stream. Instead they were recycled to a carpenter on the same block who turned some of them into rustic tables now being used by an Italian restaurant three blocks away.
